About Me

Laura Di Trapani has been making award winning independent

films, educational shorts and commercials since 1989.  Her diverse films have been screened all over the world in numerous festivals including Annecy International, Hiroshima and the Sundance Film Festival.  With her studio, film Di Trapani, she has garnered numerous Telly Awards for her work in advertising and an Emmy for her work on Public Broadcasting’s Sesame Street program. Her unique style blends live action, photo collage and hand drawn imagery to create worlds of meta-reality.

Di Trapani began her career in the 1980’s working on music videos for popular recording artists such as Talking Heads and Paul Simon, and later garnered an Emmy for her work on Public Broadcasting’s Sesame Street program. She has had the honor of directing some of the biggest names in children’s educational programming -Big Bird, Grover, Bert and Ernie..

Born in New York City Laura studied live action filmmaking and photography at the New School before settling in the Pacific Northwest. 

Di Trapani  currently teaches animation, the history of animated arts and visual storytelling at Portland State University.
